Summer 2015 Hours of Operation:

Open Monday through Friday, 10 am to 4 pm; open Saturday and Sunday, 10 am to 4 pm.

 

How to get here…

From the Straits of Mackinac:
Follow I-75 north to exit 394, Easterday Avenue in Sault Ste. Marie.  Turn left at the top of the exit ramp hill onto Easterday Avenue.  Go over the bridge down to the flashing stop light at Portage Avenue, and turn right.  Follow Portage Avenue for about a mile into the downtown area, next to the Soo Locks.  The Weather Bureau Building is located at 400 W. Portage Avenue, on your left across from Ferris Street.  Travel Time is approximately 50 minutes.

From Marquette, Munising, or Newberry:

Follow Michigan Highway M-28 east to its intersection with I-75 at exit 386.  Go north on I-75 to exit 394, Easterday Avenue in Sault Ste. Marie.  Turn left at the top of the hill onto Easterday Avenue.  Go over the bridge down to the flashing stop light at Portage Avenue, and turn right.  Follow Portage Avenue for about a mile into the downtown area, next to the Soo Locks.  The Weather Bureau Building is located at 400 W. Portage Avenue, across from Ferris Street.  Travel Time is approximate 3 hours from Marquette, 2 1/4 hours from Munising, and about an hour from Newberry.
From Whitefish Point:

Follow Whitefish Point Road south to its intersection with M-123.  Take M-123 south to its intersection with Michigan Highway M-28.   Follow Michigan Highway M-28 east to its intersection with I-75 at exit 386.  Go north on I-75 to exit 394, Easterday Avenue in Sault Ste. Marie.  Turn left at the top of the hill onto Easterday Avenue.  Go over the bridge down to the flashing stop light at Portage Avenue, and turn right.  Follow Portage Avenue for about a mile into the downtown area, next to the Soo Locks.  The Weather Bureau Building is located at 400 W. Portage Avenue, across from Ferris Street.   Travel Time is approximate 1 hour 15 minutes.

Scenic Route from Whitefish Point:

Follow Whitefish Point Road south to its intersection with M-123.  Take M-123 south from Paradise to the intersection of Curley Lewis Memorial Highway and turn left – this will take you along the spectacular shoreline of  Whitefish Bay and through the Bay Mills Tribe Indian Reservation.  Please strictly observe speed limits as you pass through the Bay Mills area; follow the same road past the Point Iroquois Light and through the town of Brimley.  Continue east through Brimley all the way until you cross the I-75 bridge and come to Mackinac Trail.  Turn left on Mackinac Trail until you reach a stop light at the I-75 Business Spur in Sault Ste. Marie.  Turn right on the Business Spur to head to the downtown area; this road becomes Ashmun Street, which you will follow all the way into the downtown to Portage Avenue.  Turn left at Portage Avenue and the Weather Bureau will be about 1/4 mile on your right at the Soo Locks.  Travel time approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.
