Dinner Cruise and Concert
The Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society announces its first Sea Chanteys and Shipwrecks Fundraiser on Thursday, August 25, at Soo Locks Boat Tours Dock # 1 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
The public is cordially invited to attend! Proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit ongoing historic restoration efforts at the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum, located at the Whitefish Point Light Station on Lake Superior.
This event will begin at 5:00 pm in the pavilion waiting room at Dock # 1. Noted Great Lakes Balladeer Lee Murdock will be providing music for this exciting fundraiser, with boarding of the Soo Locks Cruise Boat at 5:45 pm, and departure at 6:00 pm. Cost of this event is $50.00 per person, which includes drinks, appetizers aboard and a full dinner. The cruise will include transit through the Soo Locks, a cruise around Soo Harbor, and weather permitting, Lee Murdock continuing his performance on the upper deck.
Lee Murdock has been called “the premier interpreter of songs and tales about the Great Lakes.” His research into music and legends are grounded in the work song tradition, from the rugged days of lumberjacks and wooden sailing schooners. Lee comes with original ballads of contemporary commerce and revelry in the grand folk style.
Tables aboard can be reserved for parties up to 8 persons, with several tables available for parties of 6 and 4. Credit cards are accepted when making reservations; the vessel is limited to a full group of 70 persons. Tickets can be purchased online, or by calling the Shipwreck Society’s administrative offices in the historic Weather Bureau Building at Locks Park in Sault Ste. Marie, at 906-635-1742.
