As our members know, we were fortunate to have opened the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum on June 15 for the 2020 season, and the museum has welcomed very many guests since then! Museum hours remain 10 am to 6 pm, 7 days a week. Face masks are required inside all buildings.
Our 2020 Summer Appeal has begun, and as with all Summer Appeals, it is oriented to asking for funds for capital needs rather than operations, where operational funding is the focus of the year-end annual appeal. To make a contribution to the 2020 Summer Appeal, follow this link.
We have added one new but very important project: Improvement of barrier-free access to the Crews Quarters Building. For many years, we tried to use an external elevator, but the ageless winds and rain that batter Whitefish Point have proven that this is not a solution. We are considering a barrier-free ramp, but that is expensive. So, we will be asking for help with this project – and as the Crews Quarters is closed for 2020 due to the pandemic, it is a logical time to address access to this important historic structure.
Other capital projects include:
Shipwreck Documentary Creation
Motor Lifeboat Restoration
Sensing / Sonar Equipment for the R.V. David Boyd
Development of Future Museum Exhibits and Educational Outreach
Please feel free to contact Sean Ley, Development Officer, or Bruce Lynn, Executive Director, for questions or comments about these critically important projects. The administrative office telephone number is 800-635-1742.
Thank you, and we hope to see you at the Shipwreck Museum very soon!
